@Fred: YEAH, I totally agree! I personally would LOVE to see Over Sea, Under Stone done and done right. I think that would be an amazingly good movie. And for goodness sake, put some decent actors into it this time!! =:((

Yes, I completely agree. The awful thing is that chances that no one will take take neither the risk to remake The Dark is Rising nor to film another one of the books in the series. Though perhaps if a screenplay could be worked up for one of the other ones and it was made on the scale of say, the Golden Compass, perhaps that would leverage some interest in redoing that abortive travesty (love your language!) of a scandalous excuse for a movie. I think of all the books, the Dark is Rising is my favourite. There’s an urgency and a drama that is absolutely compelling from the first chapter.

Yep, I totally agree with you!!! In fact, my son is just now re-reading the series and I’ve ordered the box set and am going to read through them again myself after I’m done with the two Chess books I just got… =:)

YES! Susan Cooper remains my best memory of the 4th grade. I actually re-read the series a few years ago (pre-kids) just because I found them one day in a box of books, sat down to leaf through them, and couldn’t stop. What wonderful stuff!
