SuSE 10.1 Online Sources

Just installed 10.1 on my work laptop yesterday.  I have an IBM ThinkPad T42, and it doesn’t look like XGL is going to work for me on that.  Bummer.    That’s some of the reason that I went through this upgrade.  =:/

Just found this helpful link for finding SUSE 10.1 online package installation sources, and am upgrading KDE from 3.5.1 to 3.5.3 now (yay!).  Reason behind this was that there’s an annoying little buglet in KDE PIM 3.5.1 which shifts all of my appointments off by 5 hours (basically a time zone bug) that I believe was fixed in 3.5.2.

  • Hey Jason:

I managed to get compiz working on my T42, but with AIXGL. I’m using ubuntu, and after some tweaking I got it working.

I’m planning to write something about the process, I’ll let you know about my results.

  • Regarding your comment:

Getting two problems (ABS light and Airbag light were both stuck on) with our new-to-us 2005 Town & Country fixed only to find another problem (2 radiator fans refused to turn off when car was turned off). Had to disconnect battery overnight to turn off fans and prevent battery drainage. Took said vehicle back into the dealer who promptly and courteously fixed it. Again.

My airbag indicator is staying on too (no ABS light though). I was hoping you would be so kind to email me with a comment about what solved that problem for you.

BTW — it was a pleasure to read the other content on your site. I too am heavily involved with computers, being a consultant performing everything from system integration, network design, and software engineering. I can relate to your comments about OS-X and trying to replace it with Linux. Unfortunatly, since most of my customers are Microsoft folks (due to the commercial softwares they depend upon) I’m stuck using/programming for it instead.

    Do anything with Python??

Thanks in advance for a response with the 2005 T&C.

  • Hi Chris! =:)

I seem to remember that they were dirty sensors. The van is under warranty, so I didn’t pay as much attention to what the cause was as I did to the fact that the effect was gone. =;) Sorry…. =:/

Thanks for the feedback!! =:) Actually, I’ve been using Linux for 13+ years now, so it was me trying to replace Linux with OS X and then failing to find satisfaction with that, resulting in my trying to help Linux make peace with the proprietary Apple hardware. =:)

I’ve just recently done a bit of Python, though nothing huge. It was mainly in altering some AAP build scripts.

Good luck with the T&C!!! I’d be curious to find out what problems you end up finding with it!!
