A wise man once said, “Never take a knife to a gunfight.” I have made that mistake. You can here see my attempt to challenge my friend’s chat client manliness. I thought this funny enough to share. =:)
On the left, you can see the challenger, kopete, with its iChat style. And on the right, you can see Mike, using the real iChat, on a real Mac, laughing at me.
Dangit I want a Powerbook!
(psst! iChat Superiority was uploadd by: vanRijn).

I take this as public admission of defeat. You shouldn’t encourage me like that.

Actually, despite being a diehard OS X user, I abandoned iChat in favor of Adium.
It’s not quite as pretty, and it doesn’t support audio chat, which is sad, but it has tabbed chatting in a single window, it’s got a very minimalist footprint on both screen real estate and on processing power, and it supports all the major protocols. Oh, and it’s GPLed.
I’ve used a couple different clients, on a couple different platforms, and Adium is still my favorite overall.
Besides, if I really want the prettiness and vocals, I can always fire up iChat again. 🙂

Oh my GOSH that’s COOL! DANGIT, I want a powerbook!
*calming down*
Actually, Nate, being that Adium is built on top of libgaim, and the gaim author having been hired by Google to work on supporting their Talk stuff, I wouldn’t doubt at all that Adium will benefit from this too and be able to do audio chat very soon.

Hmmm, I didn’t know Google hired the guy who wrote gaim.
That does sound promising, to say the least…

Oh yes. And that’s pretty close to my dream job right there–getting paid to continue to develop Open Source solutions that will benefit the entire world, not just one company. =:) Color me jealous!! =:)
